This is your recipe for crafting new, whimsical, and wondrous Land of Eem-compatible material that expands the game in exciting new ways. Whether you want to design thrilling adventures, create peculiar creatures, or introduce fresh mechanics, the Land of Eem Open License gives you the creative freedom to develop, publish, and even sell your own Land of Eem-compatible creations!
Why We Created the Land of Eem Open License
Bringing this to life was no small feat. With so many of our series and stories tied to Land of Eem, we had to navigate complex licensing details to ensure that everything worked seamlessly. We wanted to make sure that the Open License truly served as a tool for the community while respecting the core works that inspired the game. It took time, but through every challenge, we had one clear motivation: you—the Land of Eem community.
From the very beginning, we’ve been blown away by the boundless creativity of our fans. Especially on Discord, where so many of you have been creating homebrew supplements, inventing new characters, crafting custom adventures, and exploring ways to expand the game beyond what we ever imagined. Your passion and enthusiasm have been an endless source of inspiration, and we knew we had to create something that would allow you to contribute to the Land of Eem game in a way that feels true to its whimsical spirit. Now, that moment has finally arrived!
What You Can & Can’t Do
To keep things simple, we’ve laid out some straightforward guidelines for what you can and can’t do based on the requirements of the Land of Eem Open License. The good news? They’re pretty simple! You’re free to create and sell compatible material, but there are a few basic rules about what can and can’t be used.
What You Can Do
Land of Eem SRD: You are free to use any part of the Land of Eem SRD (System Reference Document), provided under this license.
Create and Sell Compatible Works: You can create and sell your own game content (adventure modules, resources, settings, character options, games, etc.) that work with the Land of Eem SRD.
What You Can’t Do
Use Official Land of Eem Content Outside the SRD: Referred to as Original Publication Content, you cannot use trademarks, logos, artwork, storylines, characters, creatures, locations, settings, or other unique elements owned by the Licensor or others unless you have separate permission or they are part of the Land of Eem SRD.
Claim Partnership: You cannot imply or state that you are a partner, collaborator, or otherwise officially connected to the Licensor (i.e., Ben Costa and James Parks) unless explicitly permitted.
Misuse Trademarks: You cannot use trademarks (registered or unregistered), like the Land of Eem Logo, to imply or state that your work is officially connected to the Licensor or Land of Eem brand.
Our Requirements
Include the LOEL: You must attach a complete copy of the LOEL (Land of Eem License) to any work that uses the Land of Eem SRD.
Add a Compatibility Notice: Clearly state that your work is “Compatible with Land of Eem.”
Apply the Compatibility Logo: Affix the official Land of Eem Compatible Logo to the Cover.
